Joan Hernandez Pijuan
|
Joan Hernandez Pijuan was born in 1931. In 1956 he graduated from Highest School of Fine Arts in Barcelona. In the end of 50-s he was living and working in Paris studying art of etching and lithograph. He defended the thesis “Painting and space: experience of personal perception”. In 80-s he was a leader of the contemporary art studio under the Museum of Fine Art in Madrid. In 1997 he became a member of the Academy of Fine Art of Madrid.
Joan Hernandez Pijuan is artist of classical type, he is working with traditional materials: oil, canvas, paper. Distinctive features of his paintings are: richness and thickness, special canvas working up and image that crated by drawing graphic lines.
During and long time after the war Pijuan was living in Segarra. Landscapes of this picturesque place are inspiring him till present times. Memories about Segarra, about it’s uninhabited places all the parts of witch are independent and never flow together, where easily you may see bird flying between trees, defined his life, art and painting style.
Nature is leitmotif of his art. Furrows, roads, trees and clouds are symbols that artist use to create paintings but reproduction of the nature is not the subject for him. Pijuan wants to show emotions that nature arouses in him. Landscape paintings of Pijuan are the attempt to imprint his own experience to keep a memory about the moment.
In the interview given to Maria de Corale for the question “what is the best for him to express fillings: drawing, painting or etching?” Pijuan said: “For me conception is basic, all the rest is not much then coping by using different techniques. When I paint I deal with oil, the canvas thickness, etc. When I draw special perception is arising owning to the paper touching. Etching is demanding other type of technique than drawing. Etching requests time. And later on everything will depend on print quality. So, I am afraid to sound banal but drawing is drawing and etching is etching. For me it is some kind of the rest between paintings but exactly that affects on my art the most”.
