Antoni Tapies's artworks exhibit
Gertsev Gallery (Moscow) and Joan Prats Gallery(Barcelona) present Antoni Tapies's artworks exhibit Gertsev Gallery continues its series of exhibit projects dedicated to the works of the leading masters of West European art of the XX century and displays graphic works of the famous Spanish abstractionist Antoni Tapies (1923). Tapies is often called Spanish greatest living artist, his artistic achievement ranks with Picasso, Dali, Miro. He became world famous after his first solo exhibit at the Martha Jackson Gallery in New York, 1953. Leading museums and galleries in Europe, United States and Japan exhibit his works. The artist's retrospective exhibits took place in the Guggenheim Museum, New York and in Kunsthaus, Zurich as early as 1962. In 1992 the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA), New York displayed the retrospective of Tapies's graphic works. His latest important exhibit took place at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MACBA), Barcelona. Tapies participated in the Venice Biennale (1954, 1958, 1982 and 1993) where he was awarded the Golden Lion for his installation «Rinzen». Tapies's works belong to the world best museum collections including Guggenheim Museum, Museum of Modern Art, New York, Museum of Contemporary Art, Barcelona, Tate Gallery, London, Reina Sofia National Museum, Madrid, National Museum of Fine Arts, Argentina and other. The artist's creative life is very energetic - his quite realistic painting of the forties grows into abstract compositions that the author defines as the signs that can awake in the audience's mind images of reality. Despite the fact, that Tapies's reality lies beyond the three-dimensional world, from the middle of the fifties the artist turns to materials that are quite tangible and volumetric. The artist applies thick blend of paint with sand and cement to the canvas introducing pieces of wood, cardboard and paper into the pictorial texture. For some time the artist was under the influence of Spanish surrealism and participated in organization of the group «Dau al set». Tapies's expressive perception of the world brings him together with the artist Antonio Saura - brother of the famous film director Carlos Saura. In 1957 Tapies and Saura established an avant-garde association «El Paso». In early 1960 Tapies turns to new techniques - etching and lithography. Expressive dynamics of color stains, sharp bend suddenly emerging lines, presence of various textual and mathematical signs, prevalence of red and black colors subdue visitors' imagination and make them continuously develop and work on the associations generated by Tapies's images. In 1984 the artist establishes Fundacio Antoni Tapies. The main goal of the foundation is to study contemporary culture and art. Gertsev Gallery and Joan Prats Gallery exhibit the artist's edition graphic works from the series «Morning Nocturne (Joan Brossa's poem)»(1970), «Material Glance on Shuzo Takiguchi's Poem» (1975), «Black and Red»(1976), «Carmine»(1994) and others.
